Dental Cleanings
Preventative dental care is essential to maintaining healthy teeth and gums since kids are more prone to cavities. It is very important that they learn at an early age that brushing at least twice a day is the first step in having a healthy, beautiful smile! Kids will be kids; so an important part of good oral hygiene and preventative care is to have a regular dental check up and cleaning every 6 months at Abdoney Pediatric Dentistry.
Your child's routine dental check up will consist of; a professional dental cleaning, exam, fluoride and x-rays if needed.
Our kid friendly assistants will clean and polish your child's teeth from the gumline up; removing plaque and tartar, which can be difficult to do with a normal toothbrush. The next step is to brush on a topical fluoride treatment that is beneficial in protecting and hardening the enamel of the tooth surface. The third step will be to floss and give instruction, if necessary, which we feel is benificial in good oral health. Finally x-rays will be taken,if appropriate, to help locate disease and decay that cannot be seen by the naked eye. After the cleaning process is done, Dr. Matt will perform a thorough exam checking for cavities and other conditions. He will then discuss the results of the exam, answer any questions and recommend treatment if necessary.
In an effort to help our patients, we will provide them with proper brushing and flossing techniques, which will enable them to prevent many dental issues. We also believe that there is a strong corralation in eating a healthy diet to help in the prevention of cavities. Dr. Matt suggests limiting foods that are high in sugar and carbohydrates. He recommends staying away from sticky sweets and sodas to improve your overall health.
